Privacy Policy

Your use of Spicy Golf means you agree to this Privacy Policy, so please take a few minutes to read and understand it.

The Spicy Golf application and services, as well as the Spicy Golf website and services (the “Site”) and any content therein (collectively, the “Services”) offer users a way for users to interact with other Spicy Golf users. Users may include golfers, golf staff, “experts” and other third parties. In this Privacy Policy we sometimes refer to all of the foregoing as a Spicy Golf “network” or “community.” In this Privacy Policy (this “Policy”), we describe how we collect, use, and disclose information that we obtain about users of our Services, which are available via our email application (the “Application”) and/or the Site. Note that in this Policy references to “customers” means persons using Spicy Golf to play and track golf games and engage in ensuing conversations.

What Information We Collect

Account Information. When you register on our Site or in the app, we require you to provide your name and email address. A Spicy Golf name facilitates submitting questions, replying to conversations, and posting or sharing content. This name (or another user name you choose) may include personally identifiable information such as your name. For this reason we encourage you to select a user name that you are comfortable with and doesn’t reveal anything about your identity that you don’t want to reveal.

We may also collect the following information:

Geolocation Data. We may ask you to share your location information from your mobile device and/or computer. If you choose not to, some of the geolocation aspects of the Services may not function. Location information may be used to connect you with others in the local network. For example, a golfer searching for games locally may benefit from having the Spicy Golf system know of your location.

Your Content and Usage. We collect any communications that occur while using the Services. For example, questions or conversations between you and the Spicy Golf network are collected by Spicy Golf, and are stored and accessible by both you and others in the Spicy Golf network. We also collect other content submitted to Spicy Golf, information about the content, such as when it was submitted and when it was responded to, and any metadata that is provided with the content. We may use your phone number in the future to facilitate text messaging as part of our services.

Other Information you Provide to Us. When you interact with our Services or otherwise communicate with or through Spicy Golf in any way, we will collect the information you choose to share with us.

Information We May Collect Automatically. We may automatically collect information about your use of the Services such as: access time, email address, user name or other unique identifier; domain name, IP address, screen views; geo-location data (with your permission); language information; device name and model; operating system information; your activities within the Services; and the length of time that you are logged in. We may combine this information with other information that we have collected about you.

Social Media Site. We reserve the right to retransmit or post any questions that users provide as well as any answers provided by other members of the Spicy Golf network, such as golf courses, experts and third parties, on social media Site such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

How We Use Information We Collect

In general, we use the information we collect from and about you to provide and operate the Services, respond to your requests, and to provide customer service and technical support. We may also use information:

Where Information is Processed

Spicy Golf is based in the United States. No matter where you are located, you consent to the processing and transferring of your information in and to the U.S. and other countries. The laws of the U.S. and other countries governing data collection and use may not be as comprehensive or protective as the laws of the country where you live. And, your information may be made available to government or law enforcement requests.

How We Share Information

We may forward your game results to members of the Spicy Golf network, and will share your user name, but we will not share your identity or email address. (Of course, we will disclose the name of golf course, as well as experts and third parties responding to comments, and may include such names when posting the content on our Site or on social media. Except as otherwise expressly set forth, this section addresses the use of information by customers.) We may submit your results and comments from golfers, experts and other third party users to the community for their comments, but we will not share a customer’s identity. Accordingly you cannot control who views any content that you submit, as it is publicly available. So, if you don’t want to share content publicly, don’t submit it to Spicy Golf.

The information we collect, including personally identifiable information, may be shared as follows:

Push Notifications/Alerts

We may send push notifications or alerts to the Application or your email address. You can deactivate these messages at any time by changing the notification settings on your device or by changing your Spicy Golf settings.

Cookies and Local Storage

“Cookies” are small data file identifiers that are transferred to your computer that allow us to recognize your browser and transfer information about you and your use of our Services.

Unless you accept, we do not use a cookie on the Site. The first time you visit, a banner asks you to accept or decline. Until you accept, our analytics provider runs without a cookie and without an identifier that persists between visits, session recording is off, and nothing it records is tied to your account — but your visit is still counted. If you accept, we set a persistent analytics cookie, turn session recording on, and tie your activity to your account while you are signed in. Declining does not restrict access to any part of the Services.

You can change your choice at any time: our public pages carry a “Cookie Preferences” link in the footer that brings the banner back, and you can always instruct your browser, by changing its settings, to stop accepting cookies or to prompt you before accepting a cookie from our Site. If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” signal, we honor it and treat it as a decision to decline, even if you accept the banner.

Signing in does not use a cookie. The credential that keeps you signed in to the web app is held in your browser’s local storage on your own device and is never sent to us as a cookie. Clearing this Site’s stored data in your browser therefore signs you out and erases your cookie choice, so you will be asked again.

Third Party Analytics

We use PostHog, a third party product analytics service, to evaluate usage of our Services, so we can find what is broken and improve them. The information collected may include a unique device or browser identifier, device manufacturer and operating system, IP address, browser type, session start/stop time, the pages and screens you view, your activity within the Services, and, during recorded sessions, your browser’s console output. On the Site, what PostHog collects depends on the choice you make in the cookie banner described above, and your session is recorded only if you accept; recordings mask what you type into form fields. PostHog processes this information on our behalf in the United States, and we retain it for the period configured in our PostHog account.

Third Party Links

Our Services may contain third party links, including third party integrations. Any access to and use of such links or third party integrations is not governed by this Policy, but instead is governed by the privacy policies of those third parties.

Changes to this Policy

We may change this Policy from time to time, so please be sure to check back periodically. We will post any changes on this Privacy Policy page. If we make any changes to this Policy that materially affect our practices with regard to the personal information we have previously collected from you, we will endeavor to provide you with notice in advance of such change by highlighting the change on our Site.

If you have any questions about the Terms, the Privacy Policy or other privacy aspects of the Services, or otherwise need to contact Spicy Golf for any reason, you can reach us on our support page.
